About Us

The home of yachting, dinghy sailing and motor boating.

Royal Lymington Yacht Club

A warm welcome awaits you at Royal Lymington Yacht Club from our stunning riverside location. Whether your passion is powerboats, motor cruisers, yachts, dinghies or paddleboards you’ll find excellent facilities, first class training, expert waterside services and a thriving social programme for all ages on and off the water.

With an enviable record of success on the water, we organise regular dinghy and keelboat racing throughout the season, as well as sailing and motorboat cruises, rallies and meets. Our thriving Junior and Youth section offers year-round adventures, coaching and racing, inspiring a life-long passion for sailing.

A prominent RYA Training Centre, we provide regular training courses and host many regattas, championships and events. Our rooms are available for private hire for meetings, conferences, celebrations and other events.

Our local community sailing programme, Wednesday Junior Sailing, has continued for over 35 years, training thousands of children who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to take to the water. This excellent initiative is run by a team of volunteer members who take pleasure in passing on to a new generation the joys of sailing, rowing and seamanship.

Always something to enjoy, both afloat and ashore

Our clubhouse is a pleasant, friendly place where members and visitors can relax and enjoy our exceptional restaurant and popular bar with sun terrace, which has arguably the most picturesques views across the Solent and good food prepared from fresh ingredients. Our extensive social programme includes a varied and well attended winter programme of training courses, lectures, special suppers, formal dinners and traditional events, as well as other social activities including walking, cycling, bridge, yoga, pilates, book clubs and art classes.

New members are always welcome. We welcome families and all with an interest in being out on the water, whether under power, under sail or with paddles. And membership doesn’t end in Lymington; you’ll find friends flying the club burgee in far flung places as we reciprocate with clubs across the UK and around the world.

Members of reciprocal clubs and members of other RYA recognised clubs, whilst sailing in the Western Solent, are very welcome to make use of our bar and restaurant. If visiting on a Friday or Saturday and wishing to dine, it is recommended that you book a table in advance on 01590 672677.

Celebrating 100 years

Officially formed in 1922 by Major Cyril Potter OBE, Lymington Sailing Club had originally been established as the Lymington River Sailing Club in 1914, then was suspended during the Great War. The aim of the club was to provide regular racing between June and September for a Handicap class, the Solent Sea Birds and the Prams. The first gun of the first race was fired on Saturday 3 June 1922.

The Duke of Gloucester became Patron of the Club in December 1931 and the Royal Warrant was granted by King George VI on 3 November 1938. Today we are honoured to have Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal as our Patron.

Over the past 100 years, the Royal Lymington Yacht Club has evolved to become one of the world’s finest centres of yachting, dinghy sailing and motor boating, counting a wealth of Olympians, World Champions and National Champions amongst its members.
