Join Social Committee Chair Mary Bell and your fellow Members for a Virtual Afternoon Tea Zoom meet,  catered by Mosimann’s At Home, Click and Collect or Delivery service.

You will also be joined by Mosimann’s Head Chef Nick Hebditch, who will be judging the best dressed table competition. The winner will receive a Mosimann’s bottle of Champers.  Nick has also written some ‘Afternoon Tea’ themed quiz questions for Mary to read and entertain you all.

5% Subscription Increase

Earlier this autumn we notified Members that we would refund the 5% subscription increase (mandated by the 2020 AGM) to Member's cards, so that this could be used by Members to pay for goods and services at the Club.

Since this exercise requires a significant amount of planning to get right and can only be done once, we have been keen to do it after we have collected all (or most) outstanding subscriptions.

We are now pleased to tell you that we have had a very good response from Members to the annual membership renewal run with only a few outstanding unpaid subscriptions.  The Flag Officers are, as usual, grateful for the staunch support of our Members.

This was run on Tuesday / Wednesday of last week.  (17th – 18th Nov.) If you have paid your renewal subscription you should have seen 5% of the annual renewal fee transferred to the card of each member for whom you pay a subscription.  So if, for example, Sir Francis Drake pays a subscription for himself, Lady Drake and little Noah Drake the 5% would go on all three cards, not just on Sir Francis' card.

Please check your card and should you identify any possible problem with the balance please contact: [email protected]

Thank you once again for your support in this difficult time.

John Tudor

Vice Commodore

Winter lecture No 7. Where Angels Fear to Tread

In a lockdown induced change to our original program, the Cruising Division’s 7th Thursday Evening Lecture will be ‘Where Angels fear to tread’ by fellow Member Nigel Lang.

This remarkable account of his 1976 single handed Trans-Atlantic race in a Contessa 26 will be presented exclusively via Zoom on Thursday 26th November 2020 at 18.30 hrs.

To watch this lecture live, simply click HERE from 18.00 hrs onwards.

You will be automatically admitted in ‘watch-only’ mode, so your microphone & camera will both be disabled. Also, we can only accommodate the first 100 viewers to log on from 18.00 hrs, so it’s ‘first come, first served’.

If prompted you may need these: Meeting ID: 832 3207 9003 / Passcode: 938186

And if you don’t have a Zoom account already, please visit: https://zoom.us beforehand.

Report on the Cruising Lecture No.6

Our Winter Lecture last Thursday 19th November was 'Command of the Seas: The Navy and the New Forest against Napoleon' by Rosalyn Goulding of the St. Barbe Museum and Art Gallery. Again, the current lockdown meant that this talk was delivered via Zoom only - and what a treat it was for our large online audience of at least 63 computers and many of them had a couple participating.

Rosalyn’s lecture described England’s early 19th Century naval history and the parts played by Admiral Sir William Cornwallis, Captain Robert Man, Admiral Sir Harry Burrard Neale, Rear Admiral John Peyton, Captain John Whitby etc., all men with local connections.

The View from the Editor's Chair

The Junior-Youth division and WJS seem to be firing on all cylinders. I am regretting my great age, as it all looks so much fun. Tempus Fugit, as Virgil would say.

Our lead photo breaks with tradition as we have never had a painting before. Well now we have, albeit a photo of a painting.  It is also a winning painting. I wonder what we shall have next week.

Good to hear such positive comments from the Mosimann’s Team, and good to hear that they are being appreciated by our local Members. Looks like a pleasant feedback phone call goes a long way. Well Done!  to those who did.

By now all financial aspects of Membership and Payment Glitches should have been sorted out. You will get only one more reminder next week under Essential Reminders. You are advised to sort out any problems; swiftly.

Our cruising lectures are attracting an increasing audience on a weekly basis. I am sure this is because the Cruising Committee are choosing such interesting speakers and nothing to do with being locked up, or down, all day.

The Virtual Afternoon Tea is an experiment, and a precursor to the real thing once lockdown restrictions are lifted. Bookings are going well, as there is infinite capacity at the moment, more than after lockdown at any rate.

This week we have some magazines for you to take away. This is because the Office is clearing stuff out. If they do not go to a good home, it is in the recycling pile for them all.  Look out next week for some more bargains.

I do hope you enjoy the Newsletter, as I do every week. Bit pointless otherwise.

How's it going so far Mr Mosimann?

We asked Head Chef, Nick Hebdich How is the Click Collect and Delivery service going?

“It’s going very well” he said “We have had lots of very positive feedback from Members, much to our surprise. So many people have phoned to say how much they appreciate what we are providing, we have never seen that before”

What about complaints? This is the Royal Lymington after all. He laughed, “Absolutely no complaints yet received, however” he went on, “one or two guidance comments from helpful Members”. So when will you be back to normal then? “We are very keen to resume a more normal service to give the RLymYC Members what they obviously desire, but we have to be guided by Govt. advice, but be assured as soon as we are allowed to, we will be ready to go”  Thank you Nick.
