Lymington Team compete in selection trials
2/5/2019
A young keelboat team from Lymington is competing in the Etchells Youth Academy Selection Trials in Cowes (March 30/31), in a bid to secure one of two free fully race prepared Etchells (30ft keelboat) and, the chance to compete in a full programme of well organised and competitive racing, including Cowes Week 2019 and the Etchells Europeans (12-14 July). The Etchells Class will also pay entry fees, boat yard costs and, a small maintenance budget will be covered for the two winning trialists.
The under 22 years old team representing the Royal Lymington Yacht Club (RLymYC) is helm
Hattie Rogers, Max Crowe on mainsheet/tactics, Robby Boyd bow/jib trim and, Henry Collison spinnaker trim and navigation.
“The opportunity to hone our inshore keelboat skills against some of the best sailors in the world is a challenge we are up for. We believe we have a chance of securing one of the boats on offer and hope to acquit ourselves well for the Club. To race against some of the world’s sailing rock stars is too good to miss so we are aiming to win one of the boats on offer and then race in the Europeans “ said Hattie Rogers.
The trials are run by David Bedford, Etchells Class Coach and consist of one day of boat acclimatisation and training, followed by one day of observed racing. "This initiative provides a fantastic opportunity for talented young sailors to move into Etchells Class racing, “ said Bedford.
RLymYC Commodore Roger Garlick said: "David Franks’ generosity, support from the Royal London Yacht Club and, the Etchells Class volunteers have created a unique opportunity for rising stars to learn and excel against world class talent. As a Club our future is the young and we actively encourage young talent into keelboat racing. The Club is pleased to make a contribution to their entry fee into the trials and proud they are representing the RLymYC.”
