Ten boats and a group of around 25 members took part in this year's midweek rally to the ever-popular Buckler's Hard. The participating boats were Solent Blue, Silver Lining, Lookin Foor Kloos, Gem, Aloni, Ellida, Poc'Han, Escape, Horatia and Evie - an encouraging turnout for a midweek event.
The date for the rally was chosen by Donald Mac, who appears to have a particular talent for arranging good weather. Once again, he did not disappoint: we enjoyed fine late-summer sunshine throughout the two days, with fair winds for both the outward and return passages.
On arrival, the Buckler's Hard berthing team handled the boats and organised rafting on the visitor pontoon with their customary efficiency and good humour.
Upon arrival, around half the group enjoyed lunch together at The Master Builder's, while others chose to eat aboard and catch up with fellow members on the pontoon. Those feeling more energetic could take advantage of the delightful riverside walk to Beaulieu village.
Buckler's Hard was also hosting a free (yes free!) exhibition in the "Dig Tent" beside the slipways. It told the story of the historic shipyard and displayed artefacts uncovered during last year's excavations, together with some more recent discoveries.
The highlight of the rally was the traditional evening barbecue at the marina's hospitality area, which offers fine views across the river. Members brought and cooked their own food, and the convivial gathering continued late into the evening - a fitting end to another thoroughly enjoyable rally.
