Volunteer at Royal Lymington Yacht Club's RYA OnBoard Centre: Wednesday Junior Sailing

Thank you for volunteering to help with Wednesday Junior Sailing (WJS), Royal Lymington Yacht Club's RYA OnBoard Centre where local children aged 8 - 18 can learn sailing and seamanship skills. WJS has been running for 37 years! It is all down to volunteers like you giving up your time.

WJS is successful due to its child led approach. Running in this way does mean we need a lot of support with practical sailing, rowing and powerboating skills, but none of the water activities would be possible without the great many shore side helpers. We can find a job to suit you!

Every session is organised to strict ratios by our RYA Senior Instructor. They are supported by a large team of RYA Dinghy Instructors, RYA Assistant Instructors as well as knowledgeable helpers and a team of powerboat drivers and crew. Sessions are informal, young people come to have fun, socialise and learn at their own pace. Behind the laid back approach there is a strong structure and RYA qualifications can be achieved.

Each Wednesday, session 1 is normally school groups and home educated sailors. Session 2 is for the local sailors who come down after school. On your first few sessions we will ask you to identify yourself at the briefings so we get to know you, and can buddy you up with some of our more experienced helpers.
