Ashore Activities

YOGA, WINE TASTING, PHOTOGRAPHY, ART, GOLF AND MUCH, MUCH MORE

THERES AN ACTIVITY FOR EVERYONE - JOIN IN THE FUN

Our Club is mostly but not ALL about boating. Members regularly get together for other interests and all are welcome. If there's an activity you enjoy and its not already on the list, let us know, we are always keen for new ideas! Book clubs, art classes, movie nights, cheese and wine tastings, languages, yoga, rowing, cycling, and classic cars are just SOME of the things that we get up to!

ACTIVITIES FOR MEMBERS AT THE ROYAL LYMINGTON YACHT CLUB

Following the success of our recent “Capture that Image” photography course, we’re excited to start a photography group for club members and their families of all ages.

This informal group aims to enhance members' photographic knowledge, techniques, and skills through hands-on learning, presentations, workshops, and friendly constructive reviews of photographs.

Meetings will be held regularly to focus on developing camera skills and techniques, with occasional activities or events that may require a nominal charge.
All skill levels and ages are welcome, and there are no restrictions on supported photographic equipment.

Editing software like Lightroom and Photoshop will be discussed, and members may pursue accreditations from photography associations and societies with support from the group.

BENEFITS OF JOINING THE GROUP INCLUDE:

  • Sharing your hobby with like-minded people.
  • Developing your skills.
  • Socialising with members.
  • Access to a pool of knowledge.
  • Special discounts at local photographic suppliers and camera shops.

For more information, contact Paul French at [email protected].

Yoga classes for Members normally take place at the club on Monday and Friday mornings. Please see the Club calendar for more information.
Our Book Club meets once a month. Contact Carolyn Trimming via the club office for more information.

Art classes run during the winter months on Wednesday afternoons. Please contact the club office for more information.

‍Our annual Art Exhibition takes place in November, displaying some of the stunning artwork produced by our Members during the year.

The Wheelies Cycling Group meet every Friday Morning. There are two different bicycle riding groups:

HARDCORE WHEELIES

The "Hard Core Wheelies" group meets every Friday throughout the year, in or out of the sailing season. Every winter fortnight, the group meets in a car park in the New Forest and cycles 14-15 miles, sometimes through light mud and often on forest gravel tracks, eventually ending up at a pub for lunch. Men and women take part, and a minority have electric bikes.

Every other week, there is a club ride, also around 14 miles, which starts outside the clubhouse in the Bath Road car park at 11:00 and returns to the club in time for lunch. Some members leave a towel and a bag of clothes in the changing room to change into after a shower, before lunch upstairs.

STILL GOING STRONG, EVEN IN THE WINTER!!

Bridge classes take place on Mondays at the club during the winter months from September, with lessons for beginners and improvers.

Please contact the club office for more information and to get involved

Year-round, flower arrangements enliven our club and are put together by a wonderful team of talented Members.

If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please contact Elizabeth Andrews via the club office.

The Club's Scow Division organises walks on Thursday mornings over the winter, from the time the Potters stop in the autumn until they start again in April.

Walks are led by a different volunteer each week and start points and routes vary. Walks are mostly of one and a half to two hours’ duration. Usually, we gather in time for a 10:30 departure and finish at about 12:30 in time for a pub lunch. Leaders are asked to give a good description of their walk so that members can decide whether the walk is suitable for them. Once a month we meet outside the Club for a sea wall walk.

The ‘Strollers’ group, for those who wish to take part but cover a shorter distance than the ‘Striders', usually meet at 11:00 and aim to be at the pub before 'Striders'.

The walks' success depends on Members being prepared to lead walks. The Walk Coordinator is Doug Rogerson, who may be contacted via the club office.

Scow Division Members who have registered an interest in participating will receive an e-mail notification of each walk.

During the year, a number of other classes and activities are organised for members at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. In recent years these have included:

  • Bridge classes
  • iPad classes
  • Photography classes
  • Art classes
  • Language groups
  • Jive dance classes
  • Nordic walking
  • Wildlife safari
  • Flower arranging classes

Classes will be listed in our calendar, in the clubhouse and also in our regular emails to members.
