Needles Relief
Saturday 15 December 2018

This traditional festive charity event will be held at the Royal Solent Yacht Club on Saturday 15 December 2018.

All Club Members and their guests are welcome to sail or motor, race or cruise or take the ferry to this well supported fun event.
  • Staggered start for racers from the Royal Lymington Yacht Club line,  warning signal at 0855hrs; finish at the Royal Solent Yacht Club at the latest 1145hrs, before the helicopter and lifeboats arrive.
  • All who take part in Club racing or cruising, either regularly or occasionally, are encouraged to participate.
  • The Notice of Race will be published soon and the Sailing Instructions will follow.  Please note the location of the finishing line as a number of yachts have failed to cross it in the past!
  • If you cruise there, meet in the Royal Solent Yacht Club before the start of the Search and Rescue Training Exercise at approximately 12.00hrs.
  • All crew members are asked to donate at least £1 per head ‘landing fee’ for the RNLI at the exit gate to the pontoons, as are those travelling by ferry - a box will be located at the entrance to the RSYC.
  • This year both bars will be open and the Club will be able to cater for up to 200.  There will be a piano in the ground floor ‘Hudleston Bar’ at lunchtime for those who enjoy a traditional sing song.
  • Please note that the harbour will not charge any mooring fees providing you have either a race or cruise ticket.

A Search and Rescue Training Exercise will be conducted off the Royal Solent Yacht Club with the Yarmouth and Lymington Lifeboats and may include a helicopter hi-line transfer of seasonal gifts.  The Training Exercise can be viewed from the Royal Solent Yacht Club, where there will be a live broadcast commentary and where lunch has been arranged. Please move onto the balcony if you wish to hear the commentary.

IN THE EVENT THE TRAINING EXERCISE INCLUDES A HELICOPTER, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST ANY VESSEL APPROACH WITHIN 150 METERS OF ITS LOCATION.  IN THE INTERESTS OF SAFETY THOSE BOATS FINISHING AFTER 1145 ARE NOT TO CROSS THE LINE BUT TO GO STRAIGHT INTO THE HARBOUR.

At the Royal Solent:
There will be a presentation of prizes to the race winners, to commence at approx.1300; all crews are encouraged to attend, even if not lunching at the Royal Solent.  Gifts to the Yarmouth and Lymington RNLI crews and the Yarmouth Harbour Master will follow the presentation of the race prizes.

Booking and costs:
All entry fees and the landing fee, both racing & cruising, form a contribution direct to our local Lifeboats at Lymington and Yarmouth. Last year we raised £800 for Lymington and £500 for Yarmouth. The RSYC also raised additional monies.

For race entries, please complete the race entry form and pay £15 per boat to the Office where you will receive a ticket that entitles you to a free Yacht Berth at Yarmouth on presentation. Racers will also receive Sailing Instructions with their ticket.

Cruisers also receive a ticket with the same entitlement upon payment to the Office of £15. Will cruisers and those travelling by ferry please complete the attendance form displayed on the notice board in the club.

Lunch should be booked in advance at the Office at a cost of £10 for one course and £14 for two. The menu is Chicken Madras with Rice & Poppodums or Pork & Mushroom Stroganoff with Rice, followed by Apple & Blackberry Crumble served with Custard.

Tickets for this are also available in the Office.

Whether you intend to race or cruise there – BOOK TICKETS NOW!
