Events for Cruiser Racers

Lymington is a superb base for cruiser racing.  The Club Starting Platform is only 10 minutes away from the town’s marinas and river moorings.  If you like tidal challenges, the Solent itself and the Needles Channel can provide them.  If you want to race with less tide under your keel, Christchurch Bay is the place.

The Club hosts a strong fleet of boats racing under the IRC handicap system.  Recent achievements of Club members include Dartmouth Week and Swan European Class Winners.

Teams from the Club usually perform well in the annual Round Isle of Wight race, winning a Jeroboam trophy again last year.

The heart of cruiser racing in Lymington is the Thursday evening series when we race under both IRC and the well tried Lymington Handicap systems.  Boats range in length from under 6 metres to above 12 metres with every variety in between, including a strong fleet of classic boats. In 2014 the racing will be split into 7 classes.

Our season starts around the beginning of April with the Spring Series run over four Sundays, excluding Easter Sunday.  Another popular event is the Summer Regatta, combining light sailing and heavy partying. The Club also run a Duo (duo-handed) Series and some Saturday racing on certain weekends through the summer.
