Dinghies

Dinghy racing in Lymington

The Club has active and competitive dinghy racing under PY handicaps with big fleets of Optimists and Lymington River Scows.  Other well-supported classes in Lymington include Lasers, Wayfarers and RS400s.

Monday Evening Dinghies

Dinghy Racing Fixtures Monday evening racing takes place April to September: with five class starts attracting 60+ boats.  LTSC boats join us and reciprocate with their series on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

The Lymington Dinghy Regatta is held jointly with LTSC, with racing on 2 courses in the Solent.  2017 dates are 15/16 July.  It is open to all dinghies with Portsmouth Yardstick handicaps faster than 1500.  See the regatta page for more details

The Potter Dinghy Race is a big handicap race for all RLymYC members' dinghies, scored on average lap times.

The Peter Andreae Trophy and Penguin Trophy take place after Christmas in loaned Scows so you can just turn up (in warm kit!) and race.

The Scow division runs a multitude of races, potters and cruises - see the Scow division page

The Junior division runs various events for junior dinghy sailors including Youth Week - see the Junior division page.  Juniors who are competent racers are also welcome to join in the other dinghy races (and often win).
Other one-off races and open meetings take place throughout the year - see the sailing calendar or the links opposite

The top dinghy sailors of the year are invited to compete in the Club Champion of Champions race, held in loaned XODs in October.

All of the above rely on volunteers to help run the racing; if you are interested in volunteering please click here for more information.

Dinghy Facilities

Launching can be done at any state of the tide.  Note that Lymington Harbour Commissioners charge a fee for launching; an annual permit is available from LHC.
There is boat parking adjacent to clubhouse and slipway with hoses for washing boats down.

Members of other clubs are welcome to join in most of our dinghy events - please check the Notice of Race.

If you are new to the club or just want to find out more, please feel free to contact me through the Club office.
