Dinghy Racing in Lymington

The Club has active and competitive dinghy racing for all classes under PY handicaps and big one-design fleets of Optimists and Lymington River Scows.

Dinghy Racing Fixtures

Monday Evening Dinghy racing takes place April to September: with five class starts attracting 60+ boats. LTSC boats join us and reciprocate with their dinghy racing series on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

The annual Lymington Dinghy Regatta is held jointly with LTSC, with racing on two courses in the Solent, on 11th-12th July 2020.

The PotterShip Race for Dinghies is a big handicap race, scored on average lap times, on the morning of Saturday 25th July 2020.

The Peter Andreae Trophy (for Juniors) and the Penguin Trophy events take place just after Christmas in loaned Scows so Club members can just turn up (in warm kit!) and race.

The Scow division runs a multitude of Scow races, potters and cruises - see the Scow division page

The Junior division runs various events for junior dinghy sailors including Friday Evening Racing throughout the summer and the Junior Regatta in August - see the Junior division page.  Juniors who are competent racers are also welcome to join in the other dinghy races (and often win).

The top dinghy sailors of the year are invited to compete in the Club Champion of Champions race, held in loaned Scows in November.

Members of other clubs are welcome to join in most of our dinghy events - please check the Notice of Race – and various Open meetings take place throughout the year; details are on the Racing Events page.

All of the above rely on volunteers to help run the racing; if you are interested in volunteering please click here for more information.

Dinghy Facilities

The Club has two dinghy parks and hoses for washing boats down after sailing; more details can be found here.  Applications for a dinghy park permit can be made through the Club office.

Launching can be done at any state of the tide.  Note that Lymington Harbour Commissioners charge a fee for launching; an annual permit is available from LHC or through the Club office with a dinghy park permit.

If you are new to the club or just want to find out more about dinghy racing, please feel free to contact me through the Club office.
