Lymington Optimists

The Royal Lymington's Captains of Optimists are Valeria Sesto and Richard Breese.

Why sail an Optimist? The Optimist Class is by far the biggest Junior Class in the world! More than 85% of Olympic Sailors learned to sail in an oppie. The Lymington Flotilla is very active and the top end is made up from many of the best sailors in the UK - in 2016 they represented the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and Great Britain in Championships all around the world. RLymYC also hosts the biggest Club Open, involving children from all over the country.

RLymYC Optimist Training provides:
  • Regular weekend training and racing
  • Monday evening racing
  • Tuesday evening Spring and Autumn term training

We are delighted to announce the RLymYC Optimist Class Winter Training Program 2018-2019.
Led by National Squad coach Tom Hayes, this will consist of six weekends throughout the Winter.
The training dates are as follows:
3rd/4th November
15/16th December
19th/20th January
9th/10th February
2nd/3rd March
6th/7th April

The aim of this program is to develop and reinforce the sailors skills throughout the Winter.
The overall plan and goals will be set by Tom Hayes, who will work together with Josh Atherton and a team of talented local coaches.
This program is only available to book as a block (although see below if you are in a squad).
In addition to the main Winter Training program, we will be running two optional RLymYC ad-hoc supplemental sessions on the 1st/2nd December and 2nd/3rd February, which will be bookable individually.

We endeavored to run the program with as few clashes as possible, however if your sailor is in a Squad / Team or is doing the Spinnaker Pre-Zone Training, there may be some overlaps.
This year we are offering a discounted price which takes into consideration each Squad. All you need to do is call the office and let them know which Squad your sailor is a part of and they will charge you accordingly.
We really look forward to seeing you throughout the Winter!

Joining the Royal Lymington

They are two ways that children can become Members of the Yacht Club:

1. Full Family Membership

If a parent or both parents join then the children can become family Members.  This is the preferred way and offers lots more benefits, such as subsidised coaching, cheaper tariff in the bar, full use of the Club's facilities and access to training courses and opportunities to support the Juniors.

2. Junior Membership

Children can join in their own right as Junior Members. The annual subscription is the only as much as the cost of a buoyancy aid, however there are additional costs for coaching, which don't apply to family members.

For more information on Membership click here or contact the Club Office  Alternatively you can email the Class Captain.
