Five fantastic days of racing at our XOD Week 2022

RLymYC's annual XOD Week took place from 4th to 8th June 2022. Always a popular event, this year our Centenary XOD Week was more exciting than ever before. Twenty eight XODs including six visiting boats revelled in five days of fantastic competition, all the more special for being 100 years since the first XOD race and also the centenary of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. Visiting boats from Hamble, Parkstone and Itchenor took up the offer of free berthing at the Club and it was great to see competitors from Yarmouth making the journey across the Solent to join the racing too.

On the water the competition was both friendly and fierce! Peter Scholfield’s race team aboard David Da Cunha’s committee boat set a good mix of courses in the face of some challenging, mostly blustery, conditions. After nine races and seven different race winners, John Tremlett, Fraser Graham and Tim Copsey brought Astralita home victorious ahead of the Claire de Lune team of Jeremy Baker, Mike Crowe and Simon McCarthy who finished second, with Nik and Roy Froud’s Venus third. Congratulations to all for a fabulous week of racing!

Ashore competitors enjoyed some fabulous gatherings after sailing, including a BBQ with live music from the Goodfoot Band on the Saturday and a (somewhat dangerous!) Gin and Canapés party sponsored by Wessex Distillery on the Monday. It was fortunate that the racing didn’t start until midday, allowing a good breakfast at the Club to restore some equilibrium!

Special thanks go to Fred Stone for his hard work organising our social events and harnessing our very generous sponsors providing some great prizes for our daily draw. Our sincere thanks go to Sanders Sails, Harken, BakerMarine, North Sails, Nick Cox, Force 4 and Yachtmail chandleries for the plethora of exceptional prizes.

Despite feeling a bit battered and bruised we can all feel content we’ve had another great Lymington XOD Regatta.
