The Origins of the Club's Starting Platform

Have you ever crossed the start line at the Platform or just sailed by, leaving or returning to the river, and wondered what and when were its origins?  The Club’s Historian pondered these notions but could find no-one who had any recollection of them, so started some digging of his own.

Read on here to find the full story and the research that went as far as the UK Hydrographic Office, with some definitive evidence of the Platform’s origin.

The Club is hosting our Annual Ladies Lunch on Wednesday 13th October with Guest Speaker Lionel de Rothschild from Exbury Gardens. We would like to extend the warmest of welcomes to all our members, particularly our newest members who have had little chance over the last year to enjoy  the Club and all it has to offer- afloat and ashore.

Safety and a well-maintained boat will be at the top of the agenda for all who take to the water, whether it be sailing or motorboating. This event is designed to offer some essential advice to help equip you against some emergencies. This event is open to all members. New members are particularly welcome. Club Photographer Paul French

Paul can generally be found shooting from the Committee Boat or occasionally a RIB or, if he is lucky, a Motor Launch. After each race he selects and edits the pictures saving them to his archive.  Following many requests Paul is opening up his collection for the Membership to purchase for a small fee.  Latest images are from YOUTH WEEK 2021!!!
