RLymYC's first major junior event of 2022 a great success
On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March the Royal Lymington Yacht Club hosted the RS Feva Spring Championships, Grand Prix 4 in the RS Feva Class Association series. Over 50 boats entered into this national event, including twelve RLymYC boats and two from nearby Keyhaven YC.
The weekend granted near champagne sailing conditions for a fleet with a broad range of experience. Saturday provided decent winds and warm sunshine, creating a scramble for the sunscreen before launch! Registration, briefings, tallies and launch went like clockwork and three races were completed, albeit with general recalls on the first two races. Many of the young sailors learnt about the sailing conditions of the western Solent, with wind against tide pushing a number of boats across the start line! Sailors were delighted on their return to receive a doughnut as they tallied in.
Over 125 sailors and parents enjoyed a fantastic evening in the Club, with informal meal and lots of fun with friends. The bar and restaurant were buzzing with a fabulous atmosphere.
On Sunday all were present at the correct time, despite losing an hour with the clocks changing overnight (no mean feat with teenagers!) Another smooth launch from the slipway and three further races. The wind was lighter than Saturday, favouring some of the lighter helm/crew combinations and the tide had turned, again confusing some boats on the start line.
Congratulations to all who took part, especially Mark Jenkins Jauma (RLymYC) and Alex Sydenham (HISC) who won overall with four bullets in the first four races! A rather dramatic weekend for the Jenkins family, with Mark bumping his head on Saturday evening (hence the plaster) and Steve Jenkins going for a swim off the RIB on Sunday....!!!
1st: Mark Jenkins Jauma (RLymYC) and Alex Sydenham (HISC)
2nd: Tristan Ahlheid and Finlay Lomas-Clarke (Frensham Pond SC)
3rd: Jac Bailey and Ben Sinfield (PDSC)
