MOUNT GAY RUM SUPPORTS ROYAL LYMINGTON YACHT CLUB’S SPRING SERIES

Sunday 2nd April saw the Royal Lymington Yacht Club's Spring Series set sail, thanks to the generous support of Mount Gay Rum.

As the official Rum of the series, Mount Gay Rum will be providing weekly prizes, as well as their iconic red caps and a bottle of Black Barrel Rum for the series winners.

In a cold and typically fluky NNE wind of between 8 and 12 knots, sometimes gusting nearer 20 in places Race Officer, Simon Van der Byl set 2 courses for the 25 yachts split between 4 classes. The start was in the vicinity of buoy H, Draycott and the first two classes were sent round a laid mark in Pylewell Bay, then out on a long run to the newly laid U, Tuakana Construction, on to D, Yacht Haven, and to the finish at E, Circle Marine.

The 2 later classes were also set off on a similar course but took longer than expected so their day was finished after 1 race. The faster yachts did start a second race but on a dying breeze the Race Officer decided that it would be in everyone's best interest to shorten the race after three of six legs.

Feedback from the sailors indicated that this was a successful and enjoyable first foray for the year and, despite the cold conditions, were keen to come back in two weeks for round two of four.

The Spring Series has always been a highly anticipated event in the yachting community, attracting sailors from all over the South Coast to compete in the four-week race series. This year, Mount Gay Rum is thrilled to be a part of the action, and looks forward to providing competitors with a taste of their world-renowned rum.

Daily Prizes Winners were: IRC: Jin n Tonic (Andy Roberts); LAH: Google-Eye (Pat Stables); Sportboats: Dark n Stormy (Liam & Keith Willis); Folkboat: Svane (Harry Hall).

"We are excited to be supporting the Royal Lymington Yacht Club's Spring Series," said George Neep, Brand Manager of Mount Gay Rum. "Our passion for sailing is deeply rooted in our brand's history, and we are delighted to support this fantastic event."
