The Typhoon British and Open 29er Nationals was held in Weymouth on 22 to 26th July followed by the World Championships.  The UK fleet welcomed sailors from all over the world, with a total of 90 boats competing.

The RLymYC was represented in a total of 5 teams.

The fleet was divided in to two flights with 4 races on each of the 2 days of qualifying series, and then Gold and Silver fleet racing for the 2 day final series. A total of 16 races were completed in mostly windy conditions ranging from 15 to 25 knots. It was Weymouth skiff sailing at its best.

RLymYCs Sam Webb, sailing with Charlie Gran (HISC), were delighted to win both the British National Championship and British Youth National Championship titles. Finn Morris (RLymYC) and Oscar Morgan-Harris (HISC) were 3rd overall in the British championships and Ollie Vines (RLymYC) and Rob Mawdsley (HISC) finished 9th.

More Lymington success came with Annabelle Vines (RLymYC) sailing with Madeleine Bilbrough (HISC) who took the Ladies National Championship title, finishing 6th British team, and Ella Lightbody and Felicity Brellisford (RLymYC) taking the 3rd girl position, and 11th overall British team.

The Open Championship was won by Australia’s Joel Beashel and Logan Redford, with Ben O’Shaughnessy and Ethan Spain from Ireland in 2nd and Charlie and Sam 3rd.

The Lymington 29er fleet took off in 2020 and has gone from strength to strength, hugely assisted by their coaches Hattie Rogers and Ross Banham, by our head coach Hugh Styles and Class Captain Phil Lightbody. They have trained hard, year-round, for 3 years and it is fantastic to see them on top of the podiums in a very high-quality fleet.

Head Coach Quote “These excellent results are a testament to all of the hard work, by sailors parents and coaches at RLYMYC. It’s brilliant to see such a high calibre of results, both Nationally and Internationally, at the recent 29er events.”  “The future is bright for the RLymYC 29er teams. We wish them all the best as they push toward their next goals of Youth Worlds, representing Youth Teams, RLYMYC and their Country.

““Many congratulations, best wishes and fast sailing for the future.” Hugh Styles
