Team Racing

Royal Lymington Yacht Club Team Racing

A new club initiative for 2021 is to run monthly informal and instructive team racing sessions. The aim is to introduce interested dinghy sailors to team racing, bring on new talent and for the more experienced team racers to share their knowledge and re-fresh their skills. Everyone will participate together in mixed ability teams in a squad format.

Sessions will consist of informal racing with one or two flights of boats. Boats will be provided (there may be a small fee to cover club boat hire); we’ll be using Scows and RS Fevas. Matched teams will be formed from the squad of sailors on the day. Expect to switch in and out on the water, sail with different people from different classes and to observe racing in a support-RIB when not racing.

Team racing will take place on Saturday mornings on the following dates:

  • 7th August
  • 4th September
  • 18th September

Format of the Day

  • 10am (TBC) Meet at club to rig boats (in kit, ready to sail).
  • Briefing before launching, given by an experienced team racer.
  • Practice of techniques on route to race area.
  • Racing in Oxey or Pylewell sheltered, less tidal water.
  • 12:30 (approx.) Return to club and de-rig boats.
  • De-brief over lunch and a drink in the club bar or balcony

Join our Team Racers!

If you are interested in joining in, please complete the form below. Please tell us about any previous team-racing experience so we can balance teams out for each session and so we all get the best racing and learning experience on the water. We would also be delighted to have support from those not wishing to sail themselves but who are knowledgeable team-racing umpires or coaches who would like to help the squad progress.

Initially, spaces are limited to 18 and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, but we will endeavour to expand this should we get enough demand.
