This winter we’re hosting an RYA Yachtmaster and Coastal Skipper Theory Course at Royal Lymington Yacht Club.
Full details on the course content can be found on the RYA website here. The course builds on the foundation laid by RYA Day Skipper – delivery assumes ‘Day Skipper theory’ level of competence.
The course will be delivered at Royal Lymington YC by Lawrence ‘Mac’ McCormack, Chief Instructor at Sailing Logic of Hamble.
The course includes about 40 hours of learning plus about six hours of assessments so, after discussion, we have concluded that the most convenient way of delivering the course over the winter is during weekend sessions, timetabled as follows:
November
- Sat 8 – Full Day (09:30–17:30)
- Sun 23 – Full Day (09:00–17:30)
- Sat 29 – Morning (09:00–13:00)
December
- Sun 7 – Afternoon (13:30–18:00)
January ‘26
- Sat 10 – Afternoon (13:30–18:00)

- Sat 24 – Afternoon (13:30–18:00)
- Sat 31 – Afternoon (13:30–18:00)
February ‘26
- Sun 8 – Full Day (09:00–17:30)
- Sat 21 – Full Day (09:00–17:30)
Note – there will be assessments during the ‘full days’ so it’s important not to miss those dates.
There will be homework or self-study between training days.
The price of the course (including course materials), payable on booking is:
- £345 for Royal Lymington members
- £380 for Lymington Town SC members
- £420 for others
In addition, participants need to bring their own Portland Plotter and dividers plus a supply of 2B pencils and an eraser! You are also advised to buy the RYA’s IRPCS book .
Bookings will be open exclusively for Royal Lymington members (aged over 18) until the end of September and will then be advertised (if necessary) more widely.
