Mariners

Sailing adventures for our young members

Royal Lymington Yacht Club Mariners

The Mariners is a new section of our Junior and Youth offering, aimed at cruising adventurer young sailors. A good continuation from Shipmates, Mariners is aimed at Junior sailors aged 8+ who have an RYA Level 2 or equivalent in experience, in particular those who are keen to get more time on the water, who are not competitive or who lack confidence.

The aim is to enable opportunities on the water to experience adventure and fun, and alongside this knowledge and seamanship. Enabling skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, self-reliance and confidence, that will be beneficial for a lifetime. There is a huge emphasis on fun and adventure, learning new skills as well as gaining much needed social interaction.

Learning ideas include wildlife on the river, tides including local knowledge, navigation markers, safety at sea, passage exercises, stars and astronomy, compass skills, model sailboat building, shipwrecks…

The Mariners is a parent-led and very social group. Games and activities include treasure hunts, orienteering, camp outs and sail aways, family day cruises and bbqs, sailing challenges and much more!
