Shipmates

Adventures for members aged under 8 years old and their families

Royal Lymington Yacht Club Shipmates

Ahoy! Shipmates allows the younger Members (age 10 and under) of your family to join in with Club life and to share some great time on the water with their friends. Sailing in Scows with experienced sailors and accompanied by safety boats, the Shipmates set off on numerous adventures throughout the season, including a sail to picnic at Tanners Lane beach. Ice creams on return to shore are a frequent theme and paddle boards often taken to add to the fun.

In addition, after school sailing sessions take place on some Fridays during the sailing season, helping the children to learn the local area around the Club, as well as learning to sail. These sessions are followed by kids tea in the Club.

The Shipmates always have lots of fun, both on and off the water.

2021 Activity

Family Newtown Weekend

10-11 July 2021
Our Shipmates' first camping weekend  to Newtown Creek on 10th & 11th July was a huge success and much fun had by all the family.

Sea Water Baths

A fantastic sun filled evening was had by the shipmates families tackling the inflateables at the Sea Water baths - with a private session it was a great opportunity for even the smallest participants to take part. Lots of falling off and splashing around meant that everyone was quite worn out after the hour - at least the ice cream kiosk was still open!

July Friday After School Sail.

Third time lucky! out last attempts had been thwarted by gales but this time was perfect with a late seabreeze helping the fleet of 6 scows through crooked lake and tacking up to Oxey Bouy - it was great to see so many children taking the helm! All efforts were rewarded with an ice cream as the boats gybed back into the club - it was a beautiful evening! A big thank you to the rescue boat crews for their help.

Junior Regatta

Whilst our group was too young to participate in the sailing activities, the organisers earmarked some events which they could take part in. Lots of fun had by all.

Potter to Tanners

Sunday 5 September 2021.
Scow potter to Tanners Beach for a picnic.
