Our 2026 Winter Lecture Series begins with a fascinating look at one of the New Forest’s oldest and most important traditions. We’re delighted to welcome Sally Marsh to the Club, who will be talking about Commoning in the New Forest, sharing her first hand knowledge of life as a commoner, the traditions that continue to shape the Forest today, and the free roaming animals at the heart of this unique landscape.

About Sally Marsh

Sally Marsh is a New Forest author, commoner and lifelong lover of the countryside and its animals. Living in the beautiful New Forest National Park, Sally owns her own herd of free roaming New Forest ponies and is actively involved in commoning.

Her intimate knowledge of the Forest, its traditions and the unique characters who live and work within it provides the inspiration for much of her writing. She is also passionate about educating visitors about the New Forest and, particularly, the importance of respecting its free roaming ponies and other livestock.
