About Us
Royal Lymington Yacht Club (RLymYC) is a finalist for the RYA Club of the Year Awards, recognised for its Wednesday Junior Sailing (WJS) community programme. With over 400 children participating in £1 sessions in 2023, WJS gears up for its 40th anniversary. As a commercial training centre we run a range of training activities for members and non-members alike, enabled by a fleet of over 50 club owned dinghies.
We are also a major event venue with a bustling calendar of activities, including Cape 31s, RS21s and 29er, solidifying our reputation as a world-class destination for sailing enthusiasts and ensuring an unforgettable experience for sailors of all levels.

The Role
We are seeking a
Senior Dinghy Instructor to help lead our training team through what promises to be one of our busiest seasons yet. In this important role, you'll be instrumental in providing exceptional tuition to a wide array of participants, ensuring an unparalleled experience for all.
- Lead the preparation, planning, and delivery of tuition across various groups, ages, and skill levels. Whether leading sessions directly or overseeing multiple concurrent activities, your leadership ensures a safe and enjoyable learning experience.
- Collaborate with volunteers and be the responsible senior instructor for our Wednesday Junior Sailing community programme which can see over 100 sailors, instructors, and volunteers afloat at a time.
- Work with the Training Manager/ Chief Instructor and other senior instructors to mentor, upskill and empower the instructing team.
- Maintain high standards of safety, meeting club and governing body guidelines.
- Proactive dinghy fleet maintenance. Ensure our facilities and resources are well presented and suitable for use.
- Ensure all participants have completed the correct paperwork before going afloat.
- Demonstrate flexibility with regular evening shifts and occasional weekend working.
About You
Required Qualifications:
- RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor, with all pre-requisites up to date.
- At least 1 years’ experience working in this role at a busy centre.
Desirable Qualifications:
- RYA Powerboat, Advanced Dinghy, First Aid or Keelboat Instructor
Required abilities:
- Excellent instructor with experience delivering safe tuition for a range of groups and abilities.
- Ability to supervise several instructor led groups at a time. Ability to stand back and observe the bigger picture ensuring multiple activities run safely under your watch.
- Strong interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate professional assertiveness where required.
- Strong powerboat handling and safety boat skills.
- Competent with basic dinghy maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Professional, proactive and organised.
