Example Programme
The below programme is an indication of how your course may be structured - please be aware that this is an example only and many factors may influence this including weather and candidate progress.
On day one you will be welcomed into our club house with a tour and enjoy meeting your instructor and other course attendees. You will receive a safety brief before being introduced to the boat and the kit onboard. The instructor will take the boat into a safe space and quickly give you the chance to have your first go on the helm! By lunchtime you will understand how the wind and tide affect the boat and have tried basic manuevers including mooring to a buoy. After lunch we will cover confined space turning, and have plenty of opportunities to practice mooring on a pontoon. Everyone gets stuck in with the different roles onboard.
Day two will start with slightly longer ashore, with an introduction to the rules of the road and navigation. You will then put these skills into practice by executing your own passage plan and explore our section of the Western Solent. Keep an eye out for Hurst Castle, Yarmouth and Portsmouth - all can be spotted in the distance on a good day. After coming back ashore for lunch we will practice anchoring and practice some emergency procedures afloat - a great opportunity to put your newfound skills to practice!
