Success at J-Cup Europe, YC Cherbourg for Club members Andy & Vicky Roberts /Robert Allison & Chris Ashton’s J105 Jin Tonic, 2^nd overall IRC Class.
Yacht Club de Cherbourg, in partnership with Axe Sail, hosted the 2 day J-Cup Europe IRC series on 19-20 June 2026.
Conditions were light and variable with strong tides; racecourses were coastal races into and out of Cherbourg port, with windward – leeward courses mixed in. Tight racing combined with sun, fun and an international fleet of competitors made for a terrific event. Jin Tonic led overnight by 1 point, and with no wind forecast and a prolonged postponement, a fickle light breeze eventually set in, enabling the Race Officer to set a short coastal race. A tight last race saw the Guernsey based J 112 Fandangle, slip ahead and make her time – just! William Newton and his crew on J-105 Jelly Baby also competed and were 4^th overall in IRC Class.
